Who Would Buy This: Those shopping for an extremely realistic, affordable digital piano and synthesizer with many features and performance boosting effects.
Things we liked:
The synths on the Yamaha S90Xs are superb and extremely versatile. The board comes fully equpt with a staggering 6779 arpeggio patterns and more than enough quality drum patterns to boot.
The software programmer is easy to navigate using a little initiative. I had no trouble figuring it out. You will want to make use of this a lot as it really is the simplest way to program your synthesizer.
As for programming itself, those familiar with earlier models will be pleased to know that the Yamaha S90XS
This baby really does perform great live. After a few patches and alterations, mainly to pump up the clavs (which is in no way needed – I just have my own way!) I was ready for a test drive. I found myself finding a natural feel to using this piano straight away and the sound was really quite amazing. I think next time I may slap on a bit more reverb, but again, that’s just how I roll. Things we did not like:
The display on this thing is a little on the small side. Surpringly though this wasn’t the issue I had with it. The positioning of the display means that if you use a multi-tiered stand as I do, you may find yourself craning your neck at times to get a decent view. I easily solved this however by keeping the S90SX on top (I know, I’m a genius right?)
Having to use the software programmer more due to slight quirks in the device mechanics in order to apply my all-too-geeky patches. This isn’t a problem for me really, I can just be set in my ways at times and computers scare me a little…

I would say that the Yamaha S90XS is really good value for money. It’s a gorgeous instrument and I am very glad to have used one.
